    What will happen to this child if I report on their family?

    The Protections for Persons Reporting Child Abuse Act 1998 protects an individual if they report suspected child abuse to designated officers of Tusla, the Health Service Executive, or the police as long as the report is made in good faith and is not malicious

    Note that the Criminal Justice (Withholding of Information on Offences Against Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 provides that it is a criminal offence to withhold information about sexual offence against a person under 18 years or a vulnerable person

    Mandated Persons

    • If I am a Mandated Person under the Children First Act 2015, I am legally obliged by statute to report the sexual harm of children to the Tusla Child and Family Agency and to assist Tusla, if requested, in assessing any related concerns
    • Such reports are checked on the day that they are received and emergency action is taken if it is necessary to protect the child
    • A social worker will be assigned to the case for a situational assessment, which would involve meeting with and talking to the child, parents, extended family network, and to her relevant professionals
    • Tusla social workers will liaise with An Garda Síochána on such cases
