You don’t need a referral in order to receive the service and it is possible to go to the shelter without it but if possible, contact the shelter by phone beforehand in order to specify the availability of free spots and to agree on the time of arrival.

The mother and the service provider sign an agreement for receiving the service. The mother can receive the service until they are directed to another service that provides housing or until they can manage on their own again. The service is provided 24 hours a day.

• Tallinn Women’s Crisis Center http://www.naisteabi.ee/en/ offers support, understanding and help. The Center provides primary counseling to assess your situation, psychological and legal counseling and shelter during crisis periods, if necessary.

This NGO helps women who fall victims of domestic violence in their close relationships. Women can stay in our shelter both, with or without children.

They offer:

Shelter service:

• a safe place where to stay in case of danger of violence or after a violent incident;

• psychological crisis counseling for women (and their children) during their stay in the shelter and follow-up counseling after leaving the shelter (up to three months);

• psychological crisis counseling for those women (and their children) who suffer of domestic violence, but do not need accommodation in the shelter;

Women support-groups:

• Group-counseling for victims and their support network (relatives, friends);

• Help while communicating with various institutions (social workers, the police, prosecutors, etc.), if needed.

Legal advice:

• information about reporting to the police or initiating a court case;

• information about judicial problems and options for solving them (children’s allowance, divorce, division of joint property);

• Seminars for various specialists and organizations working with victims of domestic violence (or having contact with the target group).

International Women’s Assistance (IWA) Center

IWA provides assistance to foreign women who have come to study, work or for familial relations in Estonia.

The IWA Center offers contemporary social, cultural, educational and informational services to women with different cultural and social backgrounds living in Estonia.

IWA Center’s activities facilitate the social, political and economic inclusion of women who have come to Estonia, and help with their adjustment into Estonian society.

IWA Center’s focus is on the transition of foreign women into Estonia’s cultural and legal environment, the working world and the acquisition of the Estonian language.

IWA Centre’s broader aim is to protect women against all forms of violence, to prevent violence against women, to assist with the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, and to advance international cooperation for the elimination of violence against women and domestic violence.

IWA Center’s services

Helpline 15333 is manned one day per week from 10 to 15 o’clock. Helpline 15333 offers basic information in English, Finnish, Russian and in German, if needed.

IWA Center coordinates the activities of contact individuals and the volunteers. The Center trains contact individuals who provide anonymous and confidential support to women adjusting to the Estonian cultural space.
